Hand-carved wood bowl
Traditional wood bowl, handmade in northern Portugal. This wood bowl is known as ‘gamela’ it’s an ancient object that has its roots in the area of Barcelos, north of Portugal. In this particular village, Palme, where many families used to make these bowls, the main use for it was the proofing of home-baked bread, prepared traditionally by women. This bowl was handmade by Abílio Vilaça, in Barcelos.

Care
The bowl should be brushed after each use. If you wash it, don’t submerge it in water, and use only tepid water. It should air dry, facing down. The wood can be protected with mineral oil, proper for food use. Wood cracking and tearing may happen if it is not properly cared for. There are no exchanges for this kind of misuse.
